Compensation & Hours: The student RA will be hired at $18.04/hr with benefits. The expected work time is 12 hrs/week from May to August (approximately 192 hours in total).
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be a competent speaker of Hanoi or the Northern variety of Vietnamese.
- Completion of LING 101 and LING 205 (highly preferred).
- Basic familiarity with the phonetic software Praat, and prior knowledge of acoustic phonetics and phonetic transcriptions in IPA (all necessary specific training will be provided).
Job Description:
The key responsibilities for this position include:
- Reviewing, refining segmentation, and annotating phonetic data from audio recordings of Hanoi Vietnamese.
- Organizing annotated data in spreadsheets and maintaining error logs.
- Identifying and categorizing patterns of voice quality using electroglottographic (EGG) recordings.
(Note: Training will be provided in the use of Praat, EGG analysis tools, and Google Sheets).
