Here is a description of the ongoing projects to assist as a volunteer:
The opportunity includes assisting with two phonetics projects on speech production and speech perception. The duties include either 1) analyzing and annotating phonetic data in acoustic recordings, or 2) running psycholinguistic experiments, depending on which project the person is involved in. There could be multiple terms associated with the positions and it could be taken as a credit course like LING 375, or volunteer. The anticipated number of hours per week is 5-10 hours per week. The location is North Campus.
Skills and Qualifications:
The applicant should have taken LING 101 and LING 205. They are also expected to know how to use the phonetic software Praat and have prior knowledge of acoustic phonetics and phonetic transcriptions in IPA. If the applicants speak Vietnamese especially the Northern variety (but not required), it is very desirable for the speech production project. If the applicants have prior experience in using eye-trackers (e.g., SR eyelink models) and/or partaking in psycholinguistic experiments, it is desirable for the speech perception project. Applicants are expected to have had experiences in involvement of any kind in laboratories or experiments, e.g., have participated in any research study. All necessary training will be provided.
